About Us

Peter Eardley

Trustee

We are delighted to welcome Peter as one of our new Trustees.

Peter farms in North Shropshire, where he rears dairy youngstock for a large dairy unit and finishes store lambs over the winter. He and his wife, who recently retired from the legal profession, have three grown-up children. Their eldest lives and works in London, their daughter is a teacher, and their son is a farm manager in Shropshire. Alongside farming, Peter also serves as a Magistrate sitting in Telford.

Peter first became involved with SRS as a volunteer three to four years ago, after being encouraged to put his skills and experience to good use. Earlier in 2026 he was invited to join the Board of Trustees.

Speaking about his new role, Peter said:

"I hope I can help steer SRS forward to becoming the ‘go to’ place for people in our rural community who need support. Whether someone simply needs a listening ear or help finding professional support, it's important they know we're here for them. Living and working in rural Shropshire can be incredibly lonely, and farmers are often proud people who find it difficult to admit they're struggling. I want SRS to continue breaking down those barriers and ensuring no one has to face life's challenges alone."

We are delighted to have Peter join the Board and look forward to the knowledge, experience and passion he brings to SRS.

Testimonials

When I retired I looked around to see how I could help local farmers as they battled with the ups and downs of farming and running their family businesses. As a volunteer with Shropshire Rural Support, I feel I can really help farmers who need someone to talk to who understands their situation. I find it rewarding to give a bit back to a way of life that has served me well and I love.
